Wall Street opens higher, buoyed by tech

US stock indices opened the second session of the week higher, with NASDAQ hitting fresh record highs on the back of the tech sector, following earlier housing data from the US, the world's largest economy. 

 

US existing home sales rose 2.0% in October to 5.48 million units, compared to a 0.4% rise in September to 5.37 million, while analysts expected a 0.2% increase to 5.40 million. 

 

As of 04:25 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 rose 0.62%, or 16.04 points to 2,598.18, while Dow Jones advanced 0.64%, or 150.74 points to 23,581.07. 

 

Tech-heavy NASDAQ rallied 0.94%, or 63.53 points to 6,854.12.
