US stock indices opened mixed but near their recent record highs, after earlier data from the world's largest economy showed unemployment claims rose in line with expectations last week, while housing prices steadied higher, as the CB leading index accelerated below forecasts.

Federal Open Market Committee member Jerome Powell is scheduled to appear in front of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, in Washington DC, as investors look for any clues about the future of policy tightening this year

As of 03:26 GMT, Standard and Poor's 500 fell 0.04%, or 0.96 points to 2,434.82, while Dow Jones gained 0.01%, or 2.69 points to 21,412.72.

Tech-heavy NASDAQ declined 0.09%, or 5.68 points to 6,228.27.
