The University of Michigan's Consumer Sentiment survey fell to 96.8 in December from 98.5 in November, revised from 97.8, while analysts expected 99.0.
As of 04:08 GMT, the dollar index, tracking the greenback against a basket of major rivals, rose to 93.91 from the opening of 93.79, with the highest since November 21 at 94.09, and a session-low at 93.79.
The economic conditions indicator in the same survey rose to 115.9 from 113.5, while economic outlook fell to 84.6 from 88.9.
One-year inflation outlook rose to 2.8% from 2.5%, while five-year inflation outlook rose to 2.5% from 2.4% in November.
