U.S. Treasury Sec's testimony ahead of Senate Banking Committee

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin testified ahead of the Senate Banking and Housing Committees about the rollback of Dodd-Frank's regulations, pointing to a growth of 3% if tax, structural reforms went through.

As of 04:25 GMT, the dollar index rose for the first time in six sessions to 97.62 against a basket of currencies, from an opening of 97.49, bouncing off a six-month low.

Mnuchin said that housing reforms won't expose taxpayers to more risks, and mentioned how currency manipulation is still commonplace, asserting they're keeping their eyes on China, while expressing the U.S. commitment to reevaluate current trade deals to ensure it's not harmful to American interests.

Mnuchin also said the U.S. hasn't gone through tax reforms in the last three decades, pointing to reforming the housing sector as a priority, while expressing the department's efforts to cooperate with Congress to overcome the challenges facing the housing market.

Finally, he asserted the Department's support to track down and dismantle terrorist activities, pointing to the U.S. economic sanctions on a number of countries, including Syria, Iran, and North Korea, expounding their use to maintain U.S. national security.
