Silver prices rose today ahead of the weekend after hitting the highest level this week yesterday, with prices heading for the first weekly rise in three, after tumbling to a six-week trough in recent weeks.
Silver last traded at $17.33 an ounce, up from the opening of $17.28, with a session-high at $17.38, and a low at $17.20.
Silver's gains come amid ongoing support from higher commodity demand, while the dollar fell against a basket of currencies to a five-week trough, snapping profit-taking pressures on the white metal, specially after gold prices rose as well.
Demand rose on silver as well as expectations of an accelerated tightening path from the Federal Reserve this year waned after the last meeting, underpinning the white metal.
The dollar index, tracking the greenback against an array of six major counterparts, last traded at 100.23, compared to the opening of 100.24, with a session-low at 100.13, and a high at 100.46.
